WHAT WE DO.

We source coffee from around the world to serve the coffee-roasting community around Australia. Alongside all the familiar origins, we offer a number of rare ones, particularly Arabicas from locations like Madagascar, Cameroon, Angola and Malawi, giving previously invisible producers a commercial opportunity through access to our market.

We exclusively represent farms and cooperatives in diverse countries - these are our Originals from Origin. From these origins and others, we offer all types of preparations, from washed and natural, to pulped, anaerobic and honey-process.

FROM OUR
CURRENT MENU

Mambo Coffee is a farming collective that brings together coffee farmers across two principle growing districts, Mbale and Mubende.

Mbale district is situated at the foothills of Mt Elgon in the east of Uganda, some 50km from the border with Kenya. The native Bugisu varietal of Arabica is cultivated here in fertile volcanic soil at elevations of 1,600-1,800 masl, producing a floral cup with citrus, berries and notes of chocolate and caramel. The farms are small and usually interlaced with banana groves to provide all-important shade for the coffee crops. Intercropping with other staples is also practiced as a failsafe farming strategy.

Located 400km to the west of Mbale, Mubende district is part of the Western Savannah Grasslands. Here too intercropping is generally practiced and coffee is shade-grown at an average altitude of 1,200 masl. The typical Mubende cup is fragrant with a medium-heavy body and a rounded finish, displaying hints of tropical fruit with notes of buttery nuts.

While the Mambo collective utilises third-party processing facilities due to the prohibitive costs of setting up its own, preparation of the coffee is done by its members to ensure quality. Under the Mambo banner, the collective controls the sale of its production so it can sell coffee at favourable export prices.

MORE DOING.

We don't warehouse coffee, but rather sell by the container-load, shipping directly to our customers from origin. This means we only supply to roasters with the capacity to buy in volume, but it also means roasters can buy the coffee that they choose at a very advantageous price. Of course, like-minded roasters can overcome that restriction by grouping together to buy a full container to split among them. Call us about that !

We also take care of all the logistics to get your coffee from the farm at origin to the destination port & even to your chosen warehouse, should you so require.

WHAT WE
DON'T (DO).

We all love a good story, but sometimes there just isn't one, or at least not the one you think you'd like to hear. We don't exploit the personal stories of growers and their families in the name of traceability. We'll tell their story only if they want it told.

Sometimes we can't participate in initiatives to help farming communities, especially in circumstances where they insist on a relationship that's purely commercial.

And much as we'd like to, we can't always source coffee directly from farmers, either because of state-run controls at origin or where the milling & export processes are channelled through large agricultural concerns. In those cases, we'll be sure to tell you.

In short, we won't exaggerate our do-gooding credentials.
